Description
Market Street Bridge by Roberta Byram. Day 3 of Day 5 in the Challegene Group: Architecture. In the days gone by, this rusty old bridge was well traveled. It connects Steubenville Ohio with Weirton and Follansbee West Virginia as it spans the Ohio River. This bridge might not look like much, but as a child, it terrified me. I almost drowned and I was deathly afraid of water. Most bridges did not bother me, but this one did not have a solid concrete floor. This bridge had a steel bottom that was filled with holes…a grid of sorts. That meant that you could look out the window and see right through the floor and see the water.
In my well-seasoned age, I have visited that bridge. I even walked out a short distance to prove that I could do so. It is still being used and cars went by as I walked out onto the sidewalk. I still had cold chills and after taking my picture to prove that I did walk out a bit…I was relieved to be on solid ground and just take pictures of this bridge that frightened a small child.

Roberta, I really like the color play here... w/ pops of sun dots shining thru under the yellow steel bridge... and the structural beams almost sky blue. -GJ
